Man charged after two police officers assaulted

A man was due in court today after two officers were assaulted following an incident in Ipswich.

Police were called to the Cornhill just before 10pm on Saturday 26 September following reports of a fight involving up to 10 people outside a pub.

During the incident, a female police officer was knocked to the ground.

A man described as intoxicated, verbally abusive and behaving in a threatening and unpredictable manner was arrested at the scene.

Shaun Kinghorn, aged 38 of Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and has been charged with criminal damage and with two counts of assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty.

He was due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 28 September.
